The praying madonna of Ekatontapyliani

PORTABLE ICONS - Panaya ( Madona ) 0f Ekatontapiliani

From the plethora of portable icons that are found in the main temple and the chapels, most of which are from the 17th or 18th century, the following are worth mentioning:“The Praying Madonna” circa 15th century. An icon of exceptional work or art. Unfortunately it is covered with unskilled silver leaves which are impossible to remove because the icon might be destroyed. It is contained in an old wooden iconostassis which has twelve small icons of the Apostles, circa 16th century. It is found on the left pillar of the main temple near the chapel of Osia Theoktisti.
"The Pure One", circa 16th century. An icon of excellent art from the Cretan school of the "Virgin with the Child" and its style was made prominent by the Cretan artist Andreas Ritzos. It is a brilliant work of art by an unknown hagiographer. It is found to the right side of the main temple on the first pillar, on top of the old wooden iconostassis.
The three icons of the iconostassis of the main temple are: a) “The Virgin Mary of Ekatontapiliani”, b) “The Pantokrator” (The Omnipotent One), c) “The Assumption of the Virgin Mary”, which we have mentioned before.

Holy Trinity - St. Zion - The consecration of St. Jacob the Adelfotheos” circa 18th century, is a big icon semicircular on the top and illustrates three scenes. The Holy Trinity above and below, Christ as High Priest who officiates and served by spiritual powers, and Christ consecrating his pupil St. Jacob the Adelfotheos as the first bishop of Jerusalem. It is the work of priest Dimitrios who was considered the most eminent of post-Byzantine hagiographers. It is found in the northern wall of the main temple, near the chapel of Osia Theoktisti.
Eleousa” circa 18th century. The work of Dimitrios, the same artist who did "Holy Trinity". It is found in the chapel of St. Nicholas.
I’d like to refer to an old gold embroidered Epitaphios of excellent Russian art. It is found in a wooden glass-enclosed showcase and hangs above the pew in the temple.
